To Change or Not to Change

“Be the change that you want to see in the world.”  Gandhi

That is the question! I often tell people: I love change! But, that was not the case when confronted with the option to leave my iWeb blog behind. It wasn’t that I had a following on my original blog, nor had I composed pages upon pages of comments! It was familiar, comfortable, I was accustomed to its look and more importantly I knew how to use it.

So, there you have it. I had hit a learning curve. I love new technology, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to take the leap to a new platform. After all, it is the end of a busy school year, the beginning of a new Master’s class at Johns Hopkins University, and new technology challenges…wait what was that new term – “cognitive load theory”. I had chosen to survive rather than embark on one more new journey…..

I was letting an opportunity to learn something new fall off of my already full plate! I had reached my limit!

I set my apprehension aside and decided to look WordPress over. Hmmmmm…clean, easy to use, cool widgets, intuitive, tags, and more options! I was sold. Welcome to ThinkTech’s new location at WordPress. I’m sure my one reader from my iWeb account will find me! (Thanks, Mom!) :-)

  • Hi Lori-

I really do appreciate your honesty in this process. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make life simple, just as long as your current situation really is as simple as you think it can get. I wonder how many times I’ve passed something up because it would have required a learning curve only to never find out that once that period was over my life would have been better off. I guess I will never know, but it does say something about taking that leap, and I am glad you did. At the very least you will now know at the end of this process which service is “better” for you and your needs.

  • Hi Scott,
My second favorite saying, “When opportunity knocks, answer!”

In keeping with our classroom discussion about cognitive load theory, clearly WordPress has taken some time to make sure that navigation and design are clear to the new user. While it seems that WordPress is quite powerful, setting up the initial blog was easy and fun! I’m looking forward to exploring it!
